Really good Stay, Authentic and Convenient
clean room nice areas
i stayed in a japanese-style standard room and it was clean. the common areas were very nice. All staff seemed to know english which was helpful. the bath is on a reservation system, It allowed for a perfect one-person soak.
There IS almost no soundproofing. I could hear people talking! It was situated next to the stairwell. i could hear people loudly ascending and descending the stairs during the morning and night.

The hotel features tea and water available in the lobby, A NICE touch . i had the japanese breakfast. It was superb. This option provided a good introduction to local cuisine.

A 24-hour laundromat next to the hotel offered cheap and easy laundry services. the location was a short walk from a subway line. It made getting around simple. The ryokan offers many events. They include tea ceremonies and sake tasting.

Underwhelming Ryokan Experience
ripped door thin walls
The room felt less than stellar. The paper door had a tear, which I guess added character. The AC unit made a racket all night. Walls are so thin, a whisper carries like a shout.
